During their meetings, those who practise Sufism listen to the poems sung by their masters, the Qhawali. This traditional music, enhanced by new literary and musical elements, has become the most popular genre in Pakistan. Today, masters like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Pathaney Khan are the greatest heirs of his tradition. These artists sing praises to the Prophet and his saints. Throughout the lands of Sond and Punjab, we meet these artists as they perform in mausoleums, marriages, and festivals.
MUSIC OF BALUTCHISTAN
The Baloutchi people occupies a vast territory that covers half of western Pakistan. As nomads, the Baloutchis wander in the frontier zones of Afghanistan, the Iranian Khorasan and the Persian Gulf. Early Islamized, they are faithful to the Sunni Islam in its strict but tolerant form. This film is a voyage through the lunar landscapes of the planet with long stages by the black mankranie ethnic groups on the coast, as well as by the Derviches from the mountains.
